PATTAYA NIGHTLIFE : TOP 5 PLACES

As this list of the best Pattaya nightlife areas will prove, there is more to this notorious party city than just Walking Street. While the city isn’t quite one giant party from one end to the other (yet), there are plenty of places you can go to have a good time. Interestingly, most of the top choices offer very different types of time, meaning that you can find a particular spot for you whether you prefer clubs, go-gos or beer bars. While our list did not intentionally exclude Jomtien and Naklua, they do not feature on the list below. They do both have some nightlife areas, but these are generally much smaller and more modest. The northern end of Jomtien Beach – comprising Rompho Complex and Jomtien Complex – is worth an honorable mention, but doesn’t even come close to the sheer noise, light, and energy of the parts of Pattaya listed below.

1. WALKING STREET

Walking Street Pattaya is the biggest and busiest party hotspot in the whole of Thailand, with only a couple of the top places in Bangkok beating it for sheer volume and variety. A full kilometre from its high-tech gateway at the Beach Road end to the Bali Hai Plaza end, almost every building along its length is a nightclub, go-go bar, beer bar or restaurant. Each of the side streets – which span from Soi 14 to Soi 16, with a couple of uniquely-named streets in between - is more of the same, making the whole southern end of the city into a warren of nightlife entertainments, with something for practically every taste.

The remarkable thing about Pattaya Walking Street is that there is so much to see and do, and it is so densely packed that you could spend every night for a whole week there and, aside from having the mother of all hangovers, you would still be finding new places each and every evening. We have endeavoured to survey the main points of interest and even here we are just scratching the surface of the hundreds of venues on and around the neon-drenched strip.

2. Soi 7 & Soi 8

Taken together as one area, Pattaya Sois 7 and 8 create one of the more popular nightlife spots in the city. Despite the presence of a few go-go bars and numerous bar girls, this is actually one of the least seedy parts of Pattaya’s nightlife. The drinks here are among the cheapest and the atmosphere is among the friendliest. As a result, it is a popular area for locals and young visitors who don't want anything related to the extreme side of Pattaya's nightlife scene.

Sois 7 and 8 are about as centrally located as it is possible to get in Pattaya, being between Central Pattaya Road and Central Festival Pattaya Beach. They host a remarkable mix of attractions, from sports bars to live music bars to go-go bars to ladyboy bars to English-style pubs and more. It is a great place to start your adventures in Pattaya after dark, both in the sense of getting a few cheap drinks down to get things rolling as well as offering a fun, safe introduction to the wide variety of nightlife available around the city.

3. Soi KL Metro

Soi LK Metro is like a boiled down and concentrated version of the more renowned Walking Street. Despite being no more than 200m in length, it is home to a surprising number of go-go and girlie bars, with next to no other forms of business in evidence except for budget guesthouses and street food vendors. It comes alive every evening with people wanting all of the fun Pattaya is famous for, but without the huge crowds, loud music, fast-paced partying and long distances which characterise Walking Street.

The street takes its name from the LK Metropole hotel on Soi Diana Inn (between Second Road and Soi Buakhao), which the L-shaped road runs behind. The bar staff here are generally more easy-going, less pushy and often able to speak reasonably good English. Another major attraction of Soi LK Metro is the fact that prices are generally lower, with draught beers usually under 80 baht and, in some cases, as low as 60 baht.

4. Pattaya Land

The area known as Pattayaland is made up of two and a half streets at the very southern end of Beach Road, just before it becomes Walking Street, and it is the home to a mix of girlie bars and gay bars (though it is mostly the latter). Soi 13/3 is called Pattayaland Soi 1 and is home to X-Boys Pattaya Show and Cupidol Bar. A narrow alley about halfway down the street connects it to Soi 13/4 – Pattayaland Soi 2 – which is home to Cats A Go-Go and The Classroom Ago-go. Finally, Boyz Town (Pattayaland Soi 3) is formed by a loop of soi from Second Road to the middle of Soi 13/4 and contains Boys Boys Boys Nightclub and Copa Show Bar. This whole section of town can be very flamboyant and fun.

5. Soi 6 (North Pattaya)

Pattaya Soi 6 is one of the more notorious parts of the city’s famous nightlife. Sometimes referred to as Soi Yodsak or Soi Half a Dozen, it is one of those parts of Pattaya where very nearly every single establishment is a bar and the girls are very...friendly, let’s say. Almost the whole of the street’s 350-meter length is bathed in the pink neon light generally associated with girlie bars and it is next to impossible for a man to walk more than a handful of steps without hearing the beckoning cry of “hello, handsome man!”

The attractions of Soi 6 are perhaps something of an acquired taste (though not as much as the neighboring Soi 6/1, where almost every establishment is a ladyboy bar!) as it is a very different place to the more famous Walking Street.
