Srilanka tourism readies for post Covid revival


Srilanka tourism is ready to welcome the tourists to the island from August 2020 onwards. As per the media reports, the country starts opening up gradually from Monday amid the coronavirus pandemic. Srilanka will be the pioneer in Asian countries to open its door to tourists in the pandemic scenario. This shows the confidence of the authorities on the health care measure taken by the country in the Covid-19 scenario, also the no new cases and no death record of the island makes the country the Safest Destination to Travel during the epidemic scenario.

With the global recognition, Sri Lanka has gained by effectively managing and controlling the spread of the COVID-19 within the country authorities  realizes the importance of implementing planned, organized and well-structured health protocols when resuming tourism in the country, so as to ensure safety and good health of all guests, industry stakeholders, and the general public. To achieve the above objective, Sri Lanka Tourism presents these operational guidelines to be followed by all tourism stakeholders. Sri Lanka Tourism, in line with the guidance, received from the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the World Health Organization (WHO), have ensured the adoption of right measures to minimize chances of re-entry and/or community spreading of COVID-19 within the country, and to implement those measures in a manner that avoids unnecessary inconvenience to tourists and industry stakeholders.  The guidelines provide a road map with key criteria and steps to be taken for the ‘Safe and Secure’ restoration of tourism activities.

    1. 'On Arrival Visa' has been suspended will further notice.
      All tourists entering Sri Lanka are required to obtain online tourist visas before arrival.
      An online tourist visa fee of USD 100 will be applicable until further notice.


      The following documents are mandatory for processing online tourist visa

      1. A valid travel insurance with health and hospitalization coverage for the entire duration of stay.
      2. A valid return air ticket.
      3. Travel itinerary and details of confirmed reservations made at SLTDA registered and ‘Safe & Secure’ certified accommodation establishments, with the first night stay at a facility in and around Colombo/Negombo or Hambantota depending on the arrival airport.
      4. A Negative PCR report issued by an accredited laboratory within 72 hours prior to the landing in Sri Lanka.
      5. All tourists should undergo a PCR test at the arriving airport
